WE KNOW PERFORMANCE

Post

Matric

While the focus at the South African Jockey Academy is apprentice jockey training, we also provide a one year Post Matric Equestrian course. This is an intensive theoretical and practical course that prepares students for a career in the Equestrian world ranging from working and managing a stud farm or stable yard to becoming an internationally qualified instructor.

The Equestrian Academy is open to day scholars or boarders, with stabling available.

Practical Riding

Students are trained by expert riding instructors to compete in Showjumping, Dressage, Equitation and Eventing. Students are encouraged to compete in shows in order to gain as much experience as possible and make the most of their riding career.

South African National Instructors Plan (SANIP)

The South African Jockey Academy is the official examinations venue for the SANIP examinations for KZN candidates. These examinations are run by EQASA. Our students are trained to sit these modular examinations as part of their coursework and are taken through the modules as they pass them.

Module 1:        Basic Stable Yard and Head Groom Skills

Module 2:        Advanced Stable Yard and Groom Skills

Module 3:        Horsemastership and Yard Management

Module 4:        Preliminary Riding and Assistant Instructor

Module 5:        Horsemastership and Riding Instructor

On successful completion of the course, you may fulfill the requirements for the internationally recognised SANIP course to Instructor Level 1. The achievement of qualification will depend upon the extent of previous experience on the part of the candidate. The cost of the external assessment of these modules will be borne by the candidate.
